Association Bricolages Ondulatoires et Particulaires
Here lies a brief presentation of all BOP members... In a random order, because we, at BOP, believe in randomness!
The (random!?) thumbnail is of course a door to one of the exhibitions of each photographer. Each exhibition title is also a door to the actual exhibition.

So, how did it all started again? Hum, yes, memory. My memory has started to fail me for an already long time now. And this really distressed me... so you may say anguish is the reason for going to photography, the idea was to replace my lacking memories by images, which I started to wish nicer than the few images I kept in mind. Nicer, or different, or to be shared, or weirder, or that I could fabricate. Oh yes, anguish leads to the dark side has said the master of all of us ; oh my, does this mean...

The WHY I CAME TO PHOTOGRAPHY.
I think I just get a few affected by some friends that were really in it.

The WHAT I LIKE IN PHOTO
My memory is more visual and the photo real fit for me to express this.
I really do like the power a photo can have and the story/explanation it give you just with one short look at it.
As wrote some other here, I like too it's power to show something true but in one way limited to "a point of view".
So just a part of the story, just a part...

Initially, there was probably no specific reason for me to go for photography. I imagine there is some kind of paternal influence behind the first move towards film cameras. Some vague recollections from my childhood, where I see him manipulating a strange magic box and some pictures coming out from a bathroom few hours later.

But then after the first try, it appears that the box was not magic at all but just complicated. This is the point where I ve been hooked: trying to get something out of the box and then something meaningful. Now, I begin to understand why...

What brought me to photography? That's a good question... I won't say my father bought me my first camera as a kid, because it is not true. He bought me my first *real* camera and I was already not a kid any more (or was I?). I don't know why a lot of photographers started like that... Anyway...
Actually skateboarding started my interest in photography when I couldn't understand why my pictures were not looking like the ones in the magazines! It never occurred to me to think that I was crappy at taking pictures, instead I thought my camera...

Hi there, It is rather the photography which chose me than the reverse, because it is for the admiration of a father that I fell inside... Besides, I have always bathed in this funny mixture since I was born and for 30 years it has been my way. I love the emotional and poetic force of black and white pictures and I seldom like color images which are mostly superficial. One cannot live without art as one cannot live without air or water. I distil quietly through this odd image box the impressions and fugitive emotions...

However paradoxical it can appear, it is in Africa that Chris has made a good part of his photography culture. And when we speak about this, it is about places where photography seems in theory less accessible than somewhere else, as Burkina-Faso or still Madagascar, two countries in which he spend 15 years of his existence.

Very fast, he's taking advantage of the foreigner countries to practice. Naturally, the journey becomes a passion. Very young, he uses his first savings to leave to the other end of the planet. Later, he becomes a photographer and lives on it during...

Taking pictures, that's travelling around the world, from my window to Tahaa, carrying a notebook and a bunch of film rolls. That's feeling the old metal skin of my rollei 35. That's a simple feeling, simple as waiting for a picture in the darkroom. That's the sound of the shutter coming back in the dark. That's a smell of chemical, the hours spent for revealing faces, clouds, pieces of sky, unknown objects...

I like photography for its capacity to transport ideas. I like this way to create the reality we want by choosing the frame of a photo : who could say that a photo does not represent reality ? Nobody, however everybody should... Because who is able to claim that the exact opposite tableau was not existing just a little bit on the left or on the right off the photograph at the same moment.
