Friday 13 January - "New" exhibition by Hern42 - Isolation
Hern's new exhibition is probably the most introvert one we have had to see from him so far. The introduction he is giving us looks like a complete lie: how can we imagine that these photos are only nature as he is telling us... Going back and forth from the images to their titles, we are trying to see the "link". The "link" between them all. The "link" between images and the global meaning. At some point, nature disappears and what we see are whole "scenes." Scenes of blur, of clearness, of incredibly large little things. But in the end a feeling is emerging from the overall exhibition and this feeling is... serenity... Well, maybe he is not a liar after all... Maybe...

Monday 17 October - New exhibition by BOP member Th
For me, ""where do we go, what do we see" is an exhibition of a definite traveller.
Emptiness is not vacuity. In the very hart of all the images resides a feeling of emptiness as if their was no answer to the question "where de we go ?" and if we were not sur of "what we see". These pictures suggest that the answer is inside each of us and invite to the reflection. In fact there is no question mark at the end. This is a statement: "I show you where we DO go and what we DO see". Then, in the empty spaces, an infinity of possibles emerges as soon as one takes time to dive into the images. It may be a bit frightening at the beginning but surely one finds something at the end something very personal.

Friday 23 September - Stephane Charpentier is the new BOP guest
When looking at Stephane’s pictures, even at the very first picture you watch, you can see that there’s a complete story inside them. And when I say you watch the pictures, I mean it. It is far from looking at simple images. Quickly, you fall into this strange world filled with black, more than white, blur, more than clearness. You can even hear the screaming in some images whereas after that another image seems to bring some kind of hope.
The text “escorting” these photos is clearly indicating what Stephane’s pictures are looking for, searching for and in the end finding. I encourage you to read it carefully.

Sunday 5 June - BOP collective exhibition for the Copenhagen Photo Festival 2011 - "BOP ... in search of humanistic photography"
With this exhibition BOP brings a variety of points of view on the world. To do so we present eight coherent sets of black and white pictures with a transversal way of showing the world as we live in or as we live it.
It can be an odyssey in which some BOP member embarks within the place he lives in, as in Barthélémy Longueville's recollection of a night trip in the streets of old Shanghaï, China, or as in Chris Huby's hunt for people in front of their environment all over the world, a metaphoric way of picturing solitude. Similarly, Arnaud De Grave has been tracking stories and the humans creating them in the dark streets of the world.
However, it can be a work done not far from the very home of one member, looking at old time traditions, as in Jean-François Boujut's set about a chestnut oil mill, or as in Arnaud Thurel's ongoing work about brownfield land and abandoned places, both sets around Grenoble, France.
It can also be a specific view on this little something which touches every human being as in Arnaud Rivière's set about communication or the lack of it, situated along the Silk Road in China, or as in Sebastien Hentz's study on exposedness also all over the world.
Finally, a collaborative set of pictures from Arnaud De Grave and Chris Huby shot during a photo-trip in the almost forgotten Eastern areas of India is also presented as diptychs.
Some of these sets are shown somewhere on the website, some are totally new sets ...
BOP would like to thank the French Institute of Denmark for its help in the project.

Monday 25 April - New guest exhibition: "In the heat of the night" by Christophe Cantoni
Today, BOP is proud to welcome Christophe's guest exhibition: "In the heat of the night." In his series you'll feel the rush of the photo-reporter, his short breaths and his admiration for fire-fighters. While many of us would have been stuck with fire aesthetics, Christophe strives to reveal the human dimension of the fight and its after-effects. Hold your breath, feel the heat and enjoy!

Tuesday 8 March - Life and faces of eastern India - a double exhibition by Hern and YuB
Our fellow members, Chris (YuB) and Arnaud (hern42) have reached by chance the Indian territories near the Bangladesh border. It was not their initial plan, but from this unexpected trip, they bring a very powerful double exhibition. By following these two links [ YuB’s gallery and hern42's gallery ] you will discover two visions of the same reality, you will enter the life of some little known areas of India. While Chris is drawing close portraits in delicate gray tones, Arnaud is bringing us in the heart of street life, playing with contrasts, focus, shadows and smokes. These two exhibitions have the print of their own style, but they share a common approach of photography, their portraits open a world to us, simply conveying respect an kindness.

Friday 11 February - New exhibition from longwei: DISCOUNT FUEL
Longwei comes back to BOP after a long road trip along the south of USA. The vision he brings to us is far from what we are used to see in his previous exhibitions. First : he decided to shoot in colour, and that's really unsual for him. Then, you quickly realize when looking at these pictures that there is really emptiness all around : no people, no animals. Only remains the feeling that human came here, and that he left something before going somewhere else. The square format of the photos forces you to stop and watch them quietly. You try to go inside them and the colours, with so much blue, brings you to some extent in a special mood. For sure, you are not in New-York here, neither in Los Angeles or another big city, you are just in the middle of a huge and empty country. There's some kind of Stephen Shore's pictures in this exhibit, and in the end, a question rises in your mind : "hey man, what car were you driving during this trip ?"

Sunday 14 November - New guest exhibition by Unreadble - Morshihinskaya
At BOP, we are happy to introduce a new guest of ours: Unreadble has produced for us a powerful piece of work here, a glimpse of a small siberian village, of which I will never be able to pronounce the name or maybe only after a huge quantity of the local potato distillation product... Somehow we all have images wandering our minds of far east poor areas, their dirt roads, wooden houses, worn out cars and the great contrast between the richer but so distant big cities. It may have to do with Emir Kusturica's films, not to mention less famous artists. But this is not what Unreadble is offering to our eyes. He is not showing us what it looks like there, but on the contrary immerses himself - and hence ourselves - in the inhabitants' environment, shooting very close to people ; sometimes it feels like we see through their own eyes. The result is a perturbing, somewhat obscure, sad even sometimes, but always powerful and moving set of images.

Tuesday 9 November - New guest exhibition - Lonel(i)ness by Murat
Our new guest, Murat, is Turkish. It is in the heart of his country that he tried to recreate a perfect expressionist environment.
Through this new exhibition, we can immediately think about a universe inspired by Kafka. Monstrosity, strange forms, shadows, oppressive decoration, such many ideas that characterize the pathetic human being and his isolation. A peculiar piece of work, very successful.
We can feel a persistent anguish from each photography. The late Europe of the 19th century is not very far, the birth of a new world rocked by madness appears gently. And yet, we are indeed in Istanbul, in Kocaeli, today, following the vision of a photographer who likes to go through the streets, at night, tracking the strange one and looking for his dark secret.
The lonely trip of the photographer appears here once again, without "others". It is a need ... the writer has the same one.
But next to the sad vision of the writer from Prague, one can also prefer R.M. Rilke’s citation in Letters To A Young Poet: "What is necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours - that is what you must be able to attain. To be solitary as you were when you were a child ..."
Some photographers try to return to the natural vision of a child, so subjective it is. And we can understand why.

Tuesday 26 October - Chourmo
Following the first cover realized for the "Total Kheops" novel, we are very pleased and proud to present a new book cover from Hern42: "Chourmo" is the second opus of Marseille’s trilogy by Jean-Claude Izzo (published in Denmark by Labyrint). Here again, Hern42 gives us a dark vision of the city, completely in line with the "Total Kheops" cover. Of course, we are now all awaiting to see what will be the third book cover ("Solea")!

Wednesday 25 August - New exhibition by Th: "Lost places, lost images"
Photographing abandoned places is a sport in itself : one needs to spot the site, check its current status of use (official or unofficial, human or animal...), how to get in without getting caught or without breaking one's neck, ... there is always some amount of risk, some amount of excitation. As a photographer, you let yourself be constantly surprised by weird lights coming through holes located at weird places, clouds of dust, torn machines, strange shapes. You can't really stop yourself from imagining stories through the history of the place. A photographer must-do. It is one thing, among others, that attracted me and pushed me to photography some time ago myself. It is a sport I enjoyed as an amateur. It has gone pro in particular thanks to the work shown on the site Abandoned Places which was a real source of inspiration when I started photography.
In the case of our fellow member Th, it is merely an obsession: I heard of his lost places each time we had the opportunity to meet. He finally made it to set up a new BOP exhibition about this work, which I confess I was particularly looking forward to. And he is not the kind of guy that lets you down... I was not disappointed. Atmospheres, very few or no indication on the place, that is space enough for your imagination. Enjoy.

Tuesday 10 August - New exhibition by YuB - "The man in front of his environment"
With his new exhibition “The man in front of his environment”, Chris brings us 15 years of his photography. 15 ... Years … That *is* a lot.
At BOP we are strong believers in concision, so it might seem strange to let such a vast collection of pictures expand into a single exhibition. However, the present work is ambitious, it is personal, it is important. And it is quality work. Some rules are made to be broken or loopholed. We are happy to do so here.
Anyhow, Chris has been travelling the Globe ... And really travelling, not passing by. He got to know places, to meet people, to know people. But sometimes he just observes. Sometimes he just steals some random glimpses of random people's life. And he noticed that the ones he chooses all come down to one side of the human psyche, that one side that could be both dark and bright. Solitude. A beautiful if not scary thing.
I personally find myself into these pictures. They talk to me.
Do yourself a favour and immerse deep into this exhibition, it is well worth taking the time ...

Thursday 15 July - IJEN - In the clouds of green & yellow (a BOP travelogue)
BOP is very proud to present a new instalment in the travelogue series. Founding member Longwei took a trip to Java in December 2009 and, whether he wants to admit it or not, walked the path of James Nachtwey on the slopes of the Ijen volcano. The result is both stunning from the photographic point of view and from the insight the text gives us about his feelings.
We thereby invite you to meet the people working the lives off there, in the yellow hell of the sulphur mine. And probably more importantly, we invite you to share some of the thoughts this intense experience triggered inside Longwei.
[A download link of the pdf version, to be printed as a booklet, is available on the travelogue page of BOP website.]

Wednesday 30 June - New exhibition : Zulu: chasing dancing ghost
Three months ago, our fellow member Hern42 realized the cover of Zulu, the new book of Labyrint edition, by Caryl Férey, translated from french to danish by Jesper Tan. Today Hern42 releases the out-takes of this Zulu cover photo session. In this short (6 photographs) and powerful exhibition, Hern captures the mysterious and enlightened Zulu dance by the top-model Kristina Remne. By the way, this is also the first BOP exhibition prepared in studio with experimental flash installation. At the same time another view of this photo session, in colour this time is published on the Magnesium photo-agency website (see link on zulu expo page)..

Thursday 1 April - New BOP exhibition : African portraits (by jeff)
This new exhibition by Jeff is taking us in Benin, watching women and men's work to make Klui-Klui, a special pancake.
However, when looking at these photos, the real thing you will notice is the smile on everybody's face while working in a peaceful harmony. It looks like everybody is at his place. As in the "old mill of Tencin" exhibition, light in Jeff's photo is exactly were it has to be and manual tasks are once again in his focus.

Friday 19 March - The hunt for Carpathian meat (a trip in Hungary and Slovakia from BOP members Hern42 and Seb)
BOP keeps its slow motion pace, but things are changing ! The first exhibitions we published were trip centered, but step by step we got more mature and published more structured work. Nevertheless, as we are for sure keeping our mood for travelling whenever we can, a new section is now opened in BOP website: the travelogues. The best way to understand what is it about is to read the first one, by Hern42 and Seb, "The hunt for Carpathian meat". If you like humour, eastern wildlife, carpatian roadtrips you should like these 12 pages illustrated with photographs. Hern and Seb bring to BOP quite a unique experience of travelling, puting into words the spirit, moutains and interiors of our beloved eastern europe neighbours.

Sunday 20 December - Time and Space - new guest exhibition by Ikusan
It was one of those surreal nights, an ensemble of microevents happening one after the other when you least expected it. Made possible thanks to the age of the Internet and our shared loved for film photography, our first real-life encounter with Ikusan will remain an amazingly good memory to us. There was a newly made father entertaining us and the whole bar, helped by a constant flow of champagne and old friends, and girls crying tears of emotions... And amidst all the excitement was the mindful and friendly participation of Ikusan.
A state of mind he offers us once again to enjoy here, by bringing us around his city usually described as anything but peaceful. Yet, Ikusan lovingly chased rips in reality, atmospheres and alternative points of view in a true "Bop Spirit" fashion. Take some time to have your sight shaken by his impressive collection of moody diptychs, made a shooting time with a beloved half-frame camera.
Needless to say that, at BOP, we are very proud of hosting this work!

Tuesday 1 December - Found inside some cabbage...
It is very seldom that we see in BOP an exhibition about intimacy and home.
Being all adventurers and all (yes!), it is easier for the Indy in us to get some distance and show the world than to look very close-by and deal with deeply personal feelings... Seb took the leap and explored with care and love the arrival of Little Self inside his(their) life(s). I have to admit that I usually find such series dead boring and am rarely appealed by the cuteness (why not kittens next?). However, this time the angle taken, the quality of the pictures and the complicity that you can sense floating around captivated me. Take some time to enjoy these emotional moments and read the nice comments...
So congratulation to Seb for this very nice work on a very slippery subject. But, hey man, be careful, no kittens next, ok ?

Tuesday 1 September - New guest exhibition, 'Shanghai Expired' by avezink
BOP as the pleasure to welcome Katya Knyazeva (aka avezink) as our new guest. In her exhibition 'Shanghai Expired', Katya is developing a very unique view of Shanghai.
At BOP, we loved her work at the first sight. She has everything we are chasing after: her own distinct photographic world, projects and way of working... She acknowledge the media with a true sense of purpose. As a synthesis, with her own words, Katya is "documenting the city’s ‘residue’ using archaic tools and film media that is also dying gracefully".
There is indeed a lot of grace in these beautiful pictures...
